GOOD WEATHER, GOOD FUN FOR CENTER POINT LOG CABIN FESTIVAL

Bubbly Tom and Eunice Pingenot entertained at the Center Point Historical Society with their bubbles The Center Point Historical Society was favored with probably the most perfect day of the summer for the return of its annual Log Cabin Festival on Sunday, Aug. 22. (Last year's festival was canceled because of the covid pandemic.)An estimated 35 visitors toured the 1850s Strait Log Cabin, watched wood carving and needlework demonstrations, got their portrait sketched, or tried their hand at giant bubble making, hoop rolling, corn shelling, rope making or washing on a washboard.

Cub Scout Recruiting night, Thursday, August 26

There will be a Cub Scout Recruiting event on Thursday, August 26th from 6-7:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Hummel Shelter at Riverside Park in Vinton.

Garrison Market wraps up Monday, August 23

The last Garrison Market of the season will be held on Monday, August 23rd, at the Library parking lot and Rest Area in Garrison from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Vendors will be on hand selling a variety of items. If you have anything you would like to sell, please contact Teresa Meyer 640-0119 to let her know. There is no cost to do this.As always, our Lions Club will be providing food.

Friday Fish Fry at George G. Lucky Post in Vinton

The George G. Luckey Post 57 will be hosting a Fish Fry on Friday, August 13. Serving will begin at 5:00 p.m. and will run until 7:00 p.m.The menu will include beer batter fish (fried in peanut oil, just an FYI if you have a peanut allergy), baked potato, coleslaw, baked beans and cake for $10. Eat in or take out!

AMVETS Food Trailer to be at Dollar Fresh Friday through Sunday, August 13-15

The local AMVETS Food Trailer will be at Dollar Fresh from Friday, August 13 through Sunday, August 15. Food will be served beginning at 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. The AMVETS will serve a sandwich and chips and will hand out a ticket for a FREE fountain drink inside the store! The cost, a freewill donation. Come on out and support our veterans!

VFW to hold breakfast Saturday Morning, freewill donation

Serving breakfast Saturday, August 14th from 7 a.m. until noon, the VFW Post 8884 which is located at 5999 25th Ave. Trail, Vinton will host guests. The cost is a freewill donation. The meal will include: Biscuits & GravyScrambled EggsScrambled Eggs with onions and peppersSausageBaconCoffee, Milk, Juice, Hot Tea, Hot Chocolate

JAKES Day, this Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

The Blue Creek Springtime Monarchs (Benton County chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation) will be holding the JAKES Day this Saturday, August 14th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Izaak Walton facility north of Vinton. The event is open to all kids 17 and under. The event is free. All kids will receive a door prize and one lucky attendee will win a new 20 gauge youth shotgun.

Traveling Vietnam Wall will stop in Solon

The moving Vietnam Memorial Wall will be making a stop in Solon August 12-16th. Area Veteran Ed Scheffer will be reading the names of all of the Benton County veterans listed on the wall, on Monday the 16th at a ceremony which will begin at 10:00 am.  Another ceremony as part of the Solon Legion's 100 Birthday will be on Saturday, August 14th, at 10:00 a.
